Sugar prices were down by 0.37 per cent at Rs 2,449 per quintal in futures trading today as traders indulged in reducing positions amid higher supplies from millers at spot market against low demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in far-month December eased by Rs 9, or 0.37 per cent to Rs 2,449 per quintal with an open interest of 43,120 lots.

On similar lines, the sweetener for delivery in October contracts shed Rs 5, or 0.21 per cent to Rs 2,418 per quintal in 28,180 lots.

Analysts said offloading of positions by traders, triggered by supplies pressure from mills in the physical market against low demand from retailers and bulk consumers mainly kept sweetener prices lower at futures trade.
