Suranjan Gupta has taken over as the Executive Director and Secretary of engineering exporters' body EEPC India.

Shipments from the engineering sector account for 25 per cent of the country's total merchandise exports.

India exports transport equipment, capital goods, other machinery/equipment and light engineering products such as castings, forgings and fasteners to various nations across the world.

A post-graduate in Economics, Gupta has been with EEPC India since 2006 and has experience in international economics and trade, having worked in organisations including the American Consulate, European Commission and the Indian Chamber of Commerce.

"I would engage constructively with the Commerce Ministry and other government departments along with EEPC India leadership for seeking a dynamic policy support for exporters," Gupta said.

He replaces Bhaskar Sarkar, who has retired.

India's engineering exports crossed USD 76 billion in the 2017-18 financial year.
