Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today noted that there has been a surge of rape cases under the Raje government while condemning the recent rape case of a Japanese girl here.

The state witnessed about 4,000 rape cases including the sexual assault of minor girls within 3-4 years of age, in the last 13 months of BJP rule, he said in a statement.

The Congress leader described the recent assault of a Japanese girl near Dudu, a sub-urban town in the city as "most unfortunate and shameful act".

The incident has tarnished the image of Rajasthan and brought an ugly name to the state in front of the world, he said.

It is surprising for every one that it was happening in a state where the Chief Minister is a woman. It shows how much a woman is protected in the state, he added.

The BJP Chief Minister has got no time to take up this serious issue in her agenda and to provide justice to the suffering women, Gehlot said.
