In a show of camaraderie, leading band singer and music director Surojit Chatterjee has credited populist music man Jeet Ganguly with the turnaround in Bengali film songs.

Surojit, who has lent voice to the playback number Rajkanya Re in Koli, told PTI he did not subscribe to the views of Anjjan of 'Meet Brothers Anjjan' fame that one needed not be conversant with the voices of present day singers in the city for debuting in Tollywood playback.

"Contemporary Bengali film playback is passing through one of the most creative and fruitful phases. Even if Jeetda is composing dance numbers, it has the peppyness. Anyone from outside may feel nothing is happening here, but that's a misnomer," the Bhoomi frotnamn said.

Surojit, who would rate his musical stint in Koli as completing one cycle after first having stint as music director in Bengali blockbuster Ichhe years back, said Rajkanya Re has that earthy feel, in tune with his trademark singing style and is situational.

"A group of rural nomad artistes, wearing different garbs to entertain people are singing the track during a travel by bus in north Bengal. So The film has the typical raw earthyness which has been maintained by the Meet Brothers Anjjan also who have come out of their musical genre of Ragini MMS and likewise," he said.

Koli, produced by Vignesh Films, has three tracks composed by the popular musical ytio who had bonded since a TV reality show.
