Survey in 5 states reveals poor state of biomedical gear at

A survey conducted in five states of the country has revealed that between 30 to 63 per cent of biomedical equipments at public health facilities are dysfunctional, government informed Lok Sabha today.

In a reply to the House, Health Minister JP Nadda said that the Centre has recently provided a model Request for Proposal document to states for engaging an agency for providing timely and comprehensive maintenance of medical equipment.

The said survey was conducted in 10 districts of the five states.

Responding to another question, he said that the reported frequency of 'Down Syndrome' cases from eight hospitals in India on 75,103 births was 1.9 per 1,000 live births.
 

With an annual birth cohort of 26 million, the number of children born with Down Syndrome is estimated to be 49,400, he added.
