Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said here today that a survey would be conducted, based on which financial relief would be given to farmers and peasants whose crops were damaged due to unseasonal rains.

He said that earlier it was declared that farmers who received government aid for crops lost during the Kharif season would not be given help for their recent losses due to unseasonal rains.

However, a survey of crops lost due to unseasonal rains would also be made and guidelines for government assistance would be declared, he said.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister was speaking on the sidelines of his review of farmer's suicide affected districts and government schemes for farmers.

He said that during the Kharif season, 90 lakh farmers had lost their crops and out of these, 50 lakh farmers were given government assistance.

He said that compensation amounts had been deposited in the bank accounts of farmers and by March 10, the rest of them would also get financial relief.

Fadnavis said that this year, the Maharashtra state government had pledged to free 5,000 villages from the clutches of drought and shortages under its Jalyukt Shivar Yojna.

He also said that by the end of June this year, these villages would be shortage-free since the scheme would help farmers increase their produce.

Replying to a question, he said that all is well between the BJP and the Shiv Sena.
