To encourage cities to improve urban sanitation and achieve objectives of Swacch Bharat Mission, Urban Development Ministry has planned a survey from January 1, 2016 under which 75 cities, including the 53 with populations over one million, will be ranked.
This information was given in Rajya Sabha by Minister of State for Urban Development Babul Supriyo in a written reply.
The minister said the survey will be carried out by Quality Council of India and areas of evaluation will include open defecation free town, integrated solid waste management, information, education and behaviour change communication activity, door-to-door collection, sweeping, public and community toilet provision.
In a reply to another question, Supriyo said that among the targets of Swacch Bharat Mission upto March 2016 are construction of 25 lakh individual household toilets, construction of 1 lakh community and public toilet seats.
