Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today appealed to the members of the GST council to consider certain difficulties being faced by small tax payers in the council meeting to be convened at Delhi tomorrow.

Earlier under VAT regime, there had been a provision in most of the states for filing tri-monthly returns, but under the current tax regime all tax-payers have to find monthly return, which is causing a lot of difficulty to small traders, he said.

In a statement here, he suggested that tax-payers with a turn-over of up to Rs 1.5 crore should be permitted to file tri-monthly returns.

He also appealed for keeping in abeyance the reverse charge mechanism and raising the turnover limit under the compounding scheme from Rs 75 lakh to Rs one crore.
