In a suspected attempt on the life of a senior woman police official by sand mafia, a lorry rammed into her jeep, causing minor injuries to her, at Arakere in Mandya District, police said today.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Kavitha Hugar was seated in her jeep while four other officials were checking trucks for suspected transport of illegally mined sand when the incident happened last night, police said.

A lorry hit her vehicle from behind but she jumped out and escaped with minor injuries, police said.

The lorry driver who was with four others abandoned the vehicle and fled, they said. Police are on the look out for them.
