Suspected food poisoning toll rises to three

The toll in the suspected food poisoning incident at Rajapur village in Ganjam district mounted to three as another family member died at the MKCG Medical College Hospital here today.

Mini 23, daughter of Kameswar Gouda succumbed to illness, hospital sources said. Kameswar, who also consumed the poisonous cake along with the three children, is still struggling for survival in the medical college here.

On Saturday, Sunita (11) and Rohit (8), the daughter and son, respectively of Kameswar had died at medical college, here.

The family members were taken into ill after allegedly consumed the home-made "pitha" (cake) prepared for the Dussehera. They were admitted at sub divisional hospital at Chhatrapur when complained about the stomach pain and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
 

Since the exact reason for his illness is not known, the supportive treatment is being applied to Kameswara by a team of doctor. His condition, however, continued to be stable and he is kept under Intensive Care Unit (ICU)," said superintendent, medical college AK Behera.

The doctors reserved the opinion on the cause of death of the siblings.
