No one was injured in the attack.

"At around 7 pm, a group of militants lobbed a hand grenade at the residence of Saleng A Sangma, Community and Rural Development minister in Ringrey Gittim area of Tura," Director General of Police (DGP) Kulbir Kishan said here.

The younger brother of Sangma was present in the house while the minister was in Shillong when the incident happened.

According to the DGP, the incident happened a few hours after the police conducted operations after receiving information that the militant outfit is going to lob a grenade in market areas of Tura.

"The outfit instead lobbed the grenade at the minister's residence as there was heavy security in the market area," Kishan said.

This is the second attack on the minister. Last month, the C&RD minister had a narrow escape when the GNLA laid three IEDs on the road he was travelling in West Garo Hills district.

"We are on the job to give additional security to the minister," he said.

Operations have been intensified in and around Tura. "SP and his team have intensified operation in the area," the DGP said.
