A suspected cadre of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) today escaped from the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) where he was recently admitted, police said.
Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem said Phyrnailang Swer (33), who was suffering from abdominal ailments, escaped from his cell at the NEIGRIHMS though seven police personnel were deployed to guard the cell.
Two of the guards, who were suspected to have facilitated the escape of Swer, were arrested, he said.
An enquiry has been ordered to probe the matter, Syiem said, adding a search operation was on to capture the suspected cadre, who was arrested in January.
