Suspected militants injured a policeman with a sharp-edged weapon and took away his service rifle in north Kashmir's Baramulla district today, police said.

Constable Firdous Ahmad of IRP sixth battalion was on security duty in Pattan town, 30 km from here, when he was attacked by unidentified persons with a knife from behind, a police spokesman said.

He said the policeman was injured and his attackers fled with his service rifle, adding a hunt had been launched to nab them.

This was the second incident of weapon snatching from a policeman in the valley in as many days.

Yesterday, a policeman, posted on guard duty at the residence of a Sessions judge here, claimed that militants snatched his service rifle.
