Suspected militants opened fire at Gamnom village in Manipur's Tengnoupal district located close to the Indo-Myanmar border in the early hours today, but there was no report of any casualty, police said.
Security forces rushed to the village but the militants fled before the arrival of the security forces, the police said.
However, police recovered 42 empty cartridges, six empty cartridges of lethod shell and two missed lethod shells from the spot, a police officer said, adding that no one was injured in the firing.
The reason for the firing or the involvement of the militant militant groups were not known, the officer said.
Security forces are carrying out combing operations in the area, the police officer added.
