Two suspected NDFB militants were injured in an encounter with Royal Bhutan Army and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel near the Indo-Bhutan border in Assam's Chirang district.

The militants were chased and fired upon by Royal Bhutan Army when they tired to cross the border. When the youths were running back towards the Indian side, SSB jawans on patrol opened blank fire, Chirang SP Kumar Sanjit Krishna said.

An SSB Commandant said in the face of the offensive by the Royal Bhutan army, the militants retreated towards the forest area adjacent to Indian soil and fired on the SSB jawans, who were patrolling the border.

In retaliation, SSB jawans fired shots at the militants and conducted search operation in the area, the official said.

An NDFB cadre and their leader B Bidai were stated to be injured during the shoot-out, sources said.

During search operations, four empty and one live AK-47 cartridge were recovered along with a cap used by NDFB ultras.
