Suspected robber lynched by mob

A 25-year-old man, suspected to be a thief, was allegedly lynched by a mob in a residential locality of Nalla Sopara township at Vasai here.

The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday when locals caught hold of Balta Mirza alias Billal Shaikh while he was allegedly carrying out robbery at a house in Roshni Apartments, Inspector S S Patil of Nalla Sopara police station said.

Billal was allegedly roughed up by the angry mob, while his accomplices including one Chotta Shaikh managed to escape. Billal was allegedly dragged by the mob to the police station.

Thereafter, he was admitted to the Vasai hospital where he succumbed to his wounds yesterday, police said.
 

Police have charged one Suresh Prasad and other members of the mob under section 302 (murder) of the IPC.

No arrests have been made so far.
