A suspended assistant sub-inspector (ASI) tonight shot at and injured the station house officer (SHO) of a police station in Kathihar district, suspecting that the latter was responsible for his suspension, a senior police officer said.

According to Superintendent of Police, Katihar, Siddharth Mohan Jain, SHO of Sudhani police station Rakesh Raman was injured when ASI Zakir Hussain opened fire at him.

Raman received the gunshot in his arm and was rushed to a hospital for treatment where his condition was stated to be stable, the SP said.

He said Hussain, who fled after the attack, was suspended recently following a public agitation in December last year wherein locals had accused him of having wrongfully detained one person.

The SP said Hussain had been suspecting the SHO of having complained against him which led to his suspension and the two had a heated argument on the issue this evening after which he took out a gun and opened fire.

A search was on to nab Hussain, Jain added.
