R K Kesarwani, who was suspended from the post of Basti jail superintendent after a prisoner was killed and over a dozen policemen and inmates were injured in a clash between some inmates and prison guards on March 11, shot himself after killing his wife this afternoon, police said.
Both were rushed to the trauma centre where they were declared brought dead.
The reason behind the extreme step is not yet known, police said, adding a probe was on in the matter.
The police is suspecting that family tiff could be the reason behind the incident.
