A suspended woman homeguard Tuesday attempted self immolation near Odisha assembly here allegedly for not being assigned any duty, police said.
The woman poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fire. However, police personnel deployed at the spot quickly doused it and brought her to hospital.
The woman homeguard identified as Kanchan Nayak suffered burns on her leg and out of danger, doctors at the Capital Hospital said.
Replying to a question, Nayak said she was frustrated as she has not been given any duty.
Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police Anoop Sahu refused to comment on the matter, but sources in his office said the woman has been placed under suspension and therefore not given duty.
The woman had also jumped into Kuakhai river on July 25 to commit suicide but at that time too she was rescued.
She had attempted suicide earlier also, the sources said adding that she was suspended on various charges.
