Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar asserted that he will go ahead with the induction of Alina Matanhy in the Cabinet as per the Constitutional right given to him, a move that is being opposed by the poll panel.
He, however, till Monday evening had not submitted letter to Governor requesting for swearing-in.
Alina is tipped to contest the June 2 bypoll from Cortalim, necessitated due to the demise of her husband, who was Tourism Minister in the Parrikar Cabinet, in March.
Election Commission (EC) had last evening written a letter to Goa Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava asking for deferment of Alina's induction as it will "disturb level playing field" (in the bypoll).
"The act will be an inducement to the voters of the constituency influencing them in favour of the said candidate and would violate model code of conduct," EC Secretary Bernard John in the letter.
Earlier in the day, Parrikar told PTI he would be submitting letter to Governor sometime in the evening.
The Chief Secretary, in a letter to EC, has said that as per the Constitution, the Chief Minister has a right to induct anyone in his Cabinet.
"Now we are waiting for EC's response to our letter," Srivastava said.
Parrikar earlier had proposed to induct Alina on May 8.
