Congress workers termed the suspension of its 25 MPs as 'insult to democracy' and today staged a protest before the private office of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan in her constituency here.

Nearly 150 Congress workers reached Mahajan's office in Nandlalpura area and raised slogans in protest against the decision to suspend 25 Congress MPs from the Lok Sabha for five days.

Mahajan is elected from Indore to the lower house of Parliament.

"The decision to suspend 25 MPs amounts to contempt of democracy," State Congress Spokesman, Narendra Saluja said.

He alleged that the Lok Sabha Speaker took the decision to suspend Congress MPs on the pressure of the BJP, which is leading the NDA government at the Centre.

Saluja also alleged that despite occupying Constitutional position, Mahajan is acting in a partisan manner.

Meanwhile, BJP condemned the Congress leaders for protesting against the Speaker at her private office.

"The Lok Sabha Speaker had suspended the Congress MPs for their un-parliamentary behaviour but Congress is trying to politicise the whole issue," BJP's divisional spokesperson, Alok Dube said.

Blaming the Congress for the impasse in the Lok Sabha, Dube said their attitude is not only undemocratic but also resulting in wastage of tax payers money.

Yesterday, 25 of 44 Congress MPs were suspended from Lok Sabha for five days for unruly behaviour. The action was taken by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
