SVO sleuths arrest clerk while accepting bribe in Reasi

A clerk of Finance department was today caught red-handed by the State Vigilance Organisation while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 in Reasi district.

The Vigilance organisation caught Mohammad Shafi, clerk, Sub Treasury in Dharmari belt of Reasi while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 5,000, an SVO officer said.

Complainant Inder Singh, a lineman, Public Health Engineering (PHE) Dharmari lodged a written complaint with Vigilance Organisation, stating that he had approached the concerned clerk for release of his GP Fund to the tune of Rs 1,40,000.

The clerk demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 in order to release his GP Fund, the officer said.
 

Based on his complaint, a case was registered and investigation taken up, he said.

A trap was laid by a team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police, SVO, V K Bhat following which Shafi was caught red- handed while demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 as bribe from the complainant, the officer said.

The bribe amount was recovered from the possession of the accused in presence of an independent witness, he said, adding that he was arrested and further investigation is on.
