Swaraj Abhiyan today demanded that the government shut down a liquor vend, which was opened against the wishes of local residents in the city's Burari area.

The party raised the demand at the third public hearing against alcohol vends. It alleged that the local AAP MLA had given assent for opening the liquor vend at Nathupura in the area without the consent of residents.

"The liquor shop has become a public nuisance and a catalyst for lawlessness in the area. Snatching, eve teasing and petty crimes have become daily news in the locality. Women find it difficult to even venture out and the liquor vend has adversely impacted the minds of kids and students," it said in a statement.

Swaraj Abhiyan said it has been raising serious concerns over the granting of alcohol licences to 399 vends since AAP came to power in Delhi.

"At the public hearing, the residents gave an ultimatum to the government to remove the vend by September 11," it added.
