Swine flu: Death toll rises to 98 in Gujarat

Two more persons succumbed to the deadly H1NI virus in Rajkot while one person died in city taking the swine flu death toll across the state to 98 since the onset of winter, a state government official said today.

While a 47-year-old man died at a private hospital in Rajkot's Morbi area and a 28-year-old pregnant woman succumbed to the deadly virus at Rajkot Civil Hospital, a 38-year-old woman died at the Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital in city yesterday, said Dinkar Raval, state nodal officer for swine flu and deputy director (epidemics).

Overall, 511 positive cases have been registered, the official said adding that 276 persons have recovered from the virus while 137 are undergoing treatment in various government and private hospitals in the state.
 

Raval said, close to 85 per cent of positive cases were reported from Rajkot, Jamnagar, Amreli, Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Junagadh and Kutch districts, while no cases were reported from the Central Gujarat districts of Dahod and Panchmahals and South Gujarat's Navsari, Dangs and Valsad districts, all having sizable tribal population.
