Security solutions provider Symantec today said it has expanded its Security Operations Centre (SOC) in Chennai as it looks to strengthen its threat intelligence and response services to customers globally.

The SOC, which has set up in 2011, has about 140 cyber security professionals supporting customers and other Symantec SOCs across the globe.

"Symantec continues to heavily invest in our global SOC locations. Our strategic expansion in Chennai highlights our commitment to providing the most evolved cyber security to customers," Symantec Senior Director Cyber Security Services (Asia Pacific and Japan) Peter Sparkes told PTI.

He added that the availability of high-quality manpower was one of the factors for enhancing the capabilities of the Chennai SOC.

Symantec's SOCs -- located in India (Chennai), Singapore, Japan, Australia, Britain and the US -- analyse over 150 billion security logs worldwide each day.

With over 500 certified cybersecurity professionals, these centres provide enterprise-wide protection, helping organisations strengthen their defence and respond to new digital threats. Globally, Symantec helps secure 175 million endpoints, 80 million web proxy users, 63 million email users and 50 million consumer users.

"The Chennai facility currently has 140 security experts and with the expansion, it now has the capacity to add 60 more immediately," Sparkes said.

He, however, declined to comment on investment details. The Chennai SOC is now the largest SOC for Symantec in Asia Pacific and Japan.
