The Syrian government gave assurances today that it will comply with the one-week deadline to hand over information about the size and location of its chemical weapons, in line with a US-Russia deal, a Russian diplomat said on Russian state television.

"We have received assurances here that this will be done on time," deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov said in Damascus when asked whether Syria will comply with the timetable set by Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry during high-stakes talks in Geneva on Saturday.
