The country requires systematic drastic reforms to meet the basic amenities for masses which even after 66 years of Independence was absent, believes a Haryana minister.
"General masses are still crying for the basic amenities in the country and systematic drastic reforms are need of the hour," Haryana PWD Minister Randeep Singh Surjawala said while addressing the inaugural function of the regional conference on 'Learning from Successes' organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances of the Centre here today.
Holding the IAS officers "equally responsible for the present dismal situation in the country," Singh said while the political executives' works are approved or disapproved by the public in every five years, the administrative officers are rarely punished for delay in implementing projects.
Raising questions of the country's federal structure, he said that though Haryana pays a huge amount of Income tax, Excise tax to the Centre, it gets peanuts in return.
Centre's Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, secretary Sanjay Kothari said that time demands quick executions of policies and schemes, especially those meant for the poorest of the poor.
Senior representatives of different states were present in the inaugural ceremony of the two-day-long conference.
