Rao, who is camping in Delhi, hoped that the country's prestige would be enhanced under the leadership of Union Urban Development and Housing Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, who will preside over the deliberations of the Governing Council of UN-Habitat.

"He (Rao) hoped that under Venkaiah Naidu's leadership attempts would be made to make everyone in the world to get a decent habitat," a release from the Chief Minister's Office said.

India has been unanimously elected as the president of the UN-Habitat, an organ of the United Nations to promote sustainable human settlements across the globe.

Naidu was in Nairobi in Kenya to preside over the deliberations of the 58-member General Council of UN-Habitat.

Meanwhile, official sources said Rao's visit to Delhi was personal.
