T'gana govt orders filling up of all non-functional borewells

The Telangana government today ordered filling up of all non-functional borewells in the state by July 10.

Against the backdrop of a baby losing her life after accidentally falling into an uncovered borewell,at a village near here recently, State Panchayati Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao ordered that a fine of Rs 50,000 be imposed on those who do not close their non-functional borewells by July 10.

Rao also directed that a survey of borewells, which are not in use, be undertaken, from today itself, a state government release said.

Those wishing to dig a fresh borewell should obtain a permission 15 days in advance failing which a penalty of Rs one lakh will be imposed, it added.
