A meeting of the Telangana Cabinet tonight decided to bring in a new law for making the Gram Panchayatis function more effectively.
The Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, discussed the functioning of Gram Panchayatis, the agenda for the legislature session beginning October 27, among others, for several hours, an official release said.
The Cabinet has decided to conduct elections to Gram Panchayatis as per the timelines mentioned in the Constitution. The Gram Panchayati bodies, to be elected, would function as per the proposed new law, it said.

The Cabinet authorised the Chief Minister to formulate the new law in consultation with officials and legal experts, it said.
The Cabinet has approved the ordinances issued in recent times and also discussed the bills to be tabled in the legislature session.
Separate cabinet sub-committees have been formed to make recommendations to check road accidents and on the role of farmers' coordination committees towards providing better price for farmers' produce, the release added.
