The Bombay High Court today said the DGCA should not behave like a politician and should tackle the issue of height norm violations of structures near the airport on a war footing.
"The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) should not remain entangled in technicalities and must not behave like a politician," a division bench headed by Justice V M Kanade said while hearing a petition against structures violating height regulation norms near the airport here.
During an earlier hearing, the high court had directed the DGCA and other authorities to look into the issue and take necessary action.
"Considering the fact that these structures pose threats to the safety of countless passengers everyday, the DGCA and other authorities must tackle the issue on a war footing basis," the court said.
The DGCA today informed the court that while it had issued final orders for 42 of the 110 "obstacles" or buildings identified to be in violation of height norms in a survey conducted by the Mumbai International Airport ltd (MIAL) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) between 2010 and 2011, it was yet to issue final orders for the remaining obstacles since it was awaiting some paperwork from MIAL.
