Tagore archive in Jamshedpur

The archive is being set up by the Tagore Society, Jamshedpur in collaboration of Vishwabharati University, in the campus of Ravindra Bhawan in Sakchi here to commemorate his 150th birth anniversary, said Ashis Chowdhury, general secretary of the Society.

The work is almost complete and the archive, being set up in the second floor of its four-storied building, will be inaugurated sometime in the second week of December, Chowdhury told newsmen here today.

As we want the Vishawabharati University vice-chancellor to inaugurate the archive, we have written to him to seek his consent in this regard, Chowdhury said adding that once we get the consent, we will decide the date.

 

Regretting that the younger generation are lacking knowledge of the works and achievements of Tagore, he said the archive was aimed to motivate the people particularly the younger generation about the contribution of Tagore, who was also known by the sobriquet "Gurudev", made in various field including literature, culture, poetry, art and handicraft.

Referring the archive, which will be the first of its kind in Jharkhand and second in the Eastern India after Kolkata, Chowdhury appreciated Vishwabharati University for providing rare photographs of Tagore, books authored by him to exhibit in the archive, to be established at a cost of over Rs 25 lakh.
