"He wrote about the material, colour and even the design of clothes which his characters wore in the story. It shows that there was a parallel mind of a designer working inside when he was writing," the director said of the costumes in Tagore's novel 'Char Adhyay' on which the film is based.
"I want to bring out the essence of Tagore with this film and therefore I dared not tamper with anything that didn't match his sensibilities and style," the director said.
Describing Tagore as brilliant in designing clothes, Bandopadhaya said "In this film Tagore comes up as a designer. His sensibilities will put all modern designers to shame.
"We got the designs from archives and books as it was necessary to reflect the era of Tagore in the film," explained fashion designer Sandeep Sarkar, who worked on the film's costumes.
