Eminent jurist Tahir Mahmood today received the prestigious Prof N R Madhava Menon Best Law Teacher Award as part of the Law Teachers' Day celebrations organised here.
Among the institutions, Mar Gregorios College of Law in Thiruvananthapuram bagged this year's SILF-MILAT Institutional Excellence Award.
The function, organised by the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) and Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy Training (MILAT), also bestowed the SILF-MILAT South Asian Jurist Award to former Chief Justice of Sri Lanka, Justice Mohan Peiris, and Prof Tara Prasad Sapkota, the dean of faculty of Law at Tribhuvan University of Nepal.

Among other awardees, Prof V C Vivekanandan received the SILF-MILAT Legal Education Innovation Award and Justice A B Rohatgi Jurist Award was given to former Secretary General of the 15th Lok Sabha, T K Viswanathan.
Prof N R Madhava Menon, who along with Bar Association of India and SILF President Lalit Bhasin, gave away the awards to the recipients.
"The legal education scenario in the country is changing and within next ten years, the standard of lawyers will witness a major change. Law is now being recognised as a profession of talented students and more talented student lawyers are coming out," Menon said in his address.
"Each year we try to honour the most deserved law teachers and institutions not only in India but within the SAARC region," Bhasin said, adding "we are especially proud to honour the two eminent jurists from Nepal and Sri Lanka".
His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, Major Archbishop - Catholicos of the Malankara Catholic Church and the Major Archbishop of Trivandrum, received the award on behalf of the Mar Gregorios College of Law.
