A menswear company, in association with the West Bengal government, today launched a tailor training programme for the inmates of the Presidency Correctional Home in the city.

The state department of correctional administration has arranged for a set up inside the Presidency Correctional Home, besides providing sewing machines and looms for around 50 inmates to help them learn sewing and making clothes.

"These clothes will be available in all the flagship stores of Turtle as a special collection from August," a senior official of the company, the Turtle Limited, said.

"The initiative will help the inmates to be freed from their captivity and accelerate the level of their acceptance in the society," OSD and ex-officio DG and IG of Correctional Services Arun Kumar Gupta said.

State Correctional Administration Minister Ujjwal Biswas, senior officials of the state government and representatives of Turtle were present at a function held on this occasion.

The training programme will start tomorrow.
