"Gankar Rimpoche has been arrested by police and being brought to Himachal for interrogation," Additional DGP S R Mardi said in Shimla.

Himachal Pradesh police had been searching for Sikkim- based Rimpoche from whose house the Taiwanese nationals were arrested on the night of June 12.

Rimpoche was allegedly staying in the palatial house and monastery at Chauntra in Mandi district and had left the place before the police raided his premises.

While the Taiwanese nationals had tourist visas and had violated the provisions of Foreigners Act, Rimpoche has also been named as an accused in the two cases registered by police.

His mobile phones were tracked and location was traced near Gurgaon. Apprehending that he might fly from Delhi Airport, strict vigil was kept in the entire area, police sources said.

Police did not disclose the exact location from where Rimpoche was nabbed and said that the links of arrested Taiwanese nationals would be known after interrogating him.

The sources said that Rimpoche was allegedly having Nepalese and Indian passports and was caught at Delhi Airport in 2009 and a case was registered againt him.

The arrested Taiwanese nationals were working as carpenter and painters in the monastery and sources said that some of their compatriots had left a few weeks ago.

The interrogation of arrested persons was delayed as interpreters arrived only yesterday and with the arrest of Rimpoche, police hope to find more information on these Taiwanese nationals.
