Tajikistani man caught by customs for smuggling sandalwood at Delhi airport

A Tajikistani man has been arrested by customs officials for allegedly trying to smuggle over 60 kg sandalwood at the Delhi airport, an official statement issued Tuesday said.

The passenger was intercepted when he was proceeding to board a flight to Dushanbe via Almaty (Kazakhstan) on Monday.

The 33-year-old man was found to be carrying 62.5 kgs of sandalwood and Rs 40,000, the statement issued by the customs said.

He was arrested, it said, adding that sandalwood and Rs 40,000 being carried by him were seized.
