Senior BJP leader and Pauri MP B C Khanduri today appealed to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat to take prompt steps for setting up an Army school in Rudraprayag district.

He urged the state government to send the documents required for setting up the Army school in Rudraprayag to the Centre in an expeditious manner.

"The BJP-led NDA government at the Centre has accepted a proposal to open an Army school in Rudraprayag which I had sent during my chief ministerial regime in 2008," Khanduri told reporters here.

Khanduri said he has written a letter to Rawat in this regard but "the state government has not yet sent the documents required for setting up the school, to the Centre".

He alleged that the then UPA government at the Centre did not pay heed to the proposal.

He also apprised that he has written a letter to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and sought amendment in the Central government's Recruitible Man Population (RMP) policy for the state, citing more number of people of Uttarakhand in the Armed forces.
