The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked colleges and universities to take steps including forming anti-ragging cells, hold workshops and installation of CCTVs at crucial spots to curb the menace of ragging.
"There should be surprise checks in hostels, canteens, recreational rooms, toilets, bus stands, etc. To quell possibilities of ragging," UGC Secretary Jaspal S Sandhu said in a letter to the Vice Chancellors of all central universities.
He also pointed to regulations in this regard, and sought a series of steps be taken from forming anti-ragging cells, holding of workshops and display of anti-ragging posters to create awareness amomg students and installation of CCTVs at crucial spots.
The UGC said it would take action if any institutions does not act in accordance with regulations and fails to punish perpetrators of ragging suitably.
