DMK Working President MK Stalin today expressed concern over Andhra Pradesh's efforts to build check dams across river Palar and urged the Tamil Nadu government to form a River Protection Committee to handle such issues.
"I request the state government to take steps to stop Andhra Pradesh from constructing check dams across Palar," he said in a statement.
Stalin, also Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, said the government should take steps to expedite a court case in this regard.

Tamil Nadu was already involved in other inter-state river water disputes like Cauvery with Karnataka and Mullaperiar with Kerala, he said.
He called for constituting an River Protection Committee to be headed by an IAS officer to oversee the measures taken to monitor inter-state disputes and take preventinve measures to uphold the state's interests in water disputes, he said.
Andhra government's move to construct a check dam across Palar river has drawn opposition from various quarters in Tamil Nadu.
