Taking newcomers in debut film is a risk: Divya Khosla Kumar

Divya, who has acted in 'Dal - The Gang', 'Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo', is now directing 'Yaariyaan'.

"It is a youth-centric film and so we wanted someone young. We wanted someone in the age group of 19-20 years, if we would have taken some 30 or 40-year-old actor then it wouldn't have looked genuine," Divya said.

"It is a risk definitely (to take newcomers)... When I finished writing the script it turned to be something where I had to cast newcomers. I have remained true to the requirement of the story."

There are no cameo appearances by any established star in her film.

Direction was something she always wanted to do, she said. "I have been directing ads and videos for quite some time. And I wanted to direct films. I am happy I got to do this film."

The film centres around college-life. "It is a very young film - it shows college life. I think it is a proper commercial film," she said.
