Talks have started today between Nepal government's representatives and veteran medical professional Dr Govinda KC, who has been fasting for 25 days demanding reforms in the country's medical sector, officials said.
The talks were taking place under the coordination of Deputy Parliamentary Party Leader of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Subash Nembang at the Ministry of Education in Kathmandu, they said.
Earlier, Nembang had held talks with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, NCP co-chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" and former Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Kedar Bhakta Mathema.
Education Secretary Khagaraj Baral is representing the government team, while Jivan Chhetri, Surendra Bhandari, Om Prakash Aryal, Abhishek Raj Singh and Sumit Pandey are representing Dr KC's team during the talks.
The teams will focus on the agendas, including barring from opening new medical colleges in Kathmandu for 10 years and establishing news ones in the remote areas of the country.
Dr KC has been on a fast-unto-death since June 30demanding reforms in medical education sector. This is his 15th hunger strike.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the National Assembly (NA) has been postponed due to the obstruction by the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC).
