Talks on wage increase for hosiery workers in Tirupur remained inconclusive today and next round of talks was scheduled for February five, sources in the Tirupur Exporters Association said.

Against the backdrop of demand for 100 per cent increase in the wages for more than lakh workers, a meeting was held between the representatives of five major maufacturers' associations and joint committee of eight trade unions there.

The managements offered an increase of 10 per cent in the first year and three per cent each for subsequent three years, sources in the Tirupur Exporters Association said.

However, the union representatives argued that the demand for 100 per cent increase was based on the minimum wages fixed by the Centre, they said.

As there was no breakthrough, both adjourned the meeting and fixed February five to arrive at a possible settlement, the sources said.
