The tripartite meeting at Chennai to solve the ongoing indefinite strike by Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) contract workers over regularisation of services failed today, a top official said.

Ten trade unions, the management of NLC and Regional Labour Commissioner, Chennai, participated in the talks, S Balaji, NLC Chief General Manager, told reporters here.

He said the unions were demanding that the workers be paid Rs 26,000 per month. NLC management offered them Rs 411 per day, up from the Rs 327 per day now, plus 8.33 per cent bonus but the offer was rejected by the unions.

Meanwhile, the indefinite strike continued for the 20th day over the workers' six point charter of demands, which include service regularisation, wage hike and bonus.

DMK union president Thirumavalavan said the strike would continue till their demands are met.
