A havildar of Taloja Central Jail in neighbouring Raigad district was arrested on Friday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe, a Maharashtra Anti Corruption Bureau official said.
Thane ACB Superintendent of Police Mahesh Patil said havildar Pradeep Nimbalkar (48) had demanded Rs 50,000 from a man whose brother was facing a murder charge and was an inmate of Taloja Central Jail.
"This bribe was to ensure the accused gets good treatment in jail. After receiving a complaint, the ACB trapped Nimbalkar when he accepted Rs 5,000 as part of the bribe amount," Patil said.
He was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the SP said.
