Tamil Nadu CM greets 'Chennai boy' Sundar Pichai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today lauded and greeted Sundar Pichai, tech giant Google's new Chief Executive Officer who is a native of Tamil Nadu.

"Congratulations on your appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of Google Inc. It is a matter of pride for Tamil Nadu that a person with roots in the State has attained such a high position in a highly competitive environment through ability and hard work," she said in her congratulatory letter.

"You have set a wonderful example for the youth of the State. On behalf of the people and Government of Tamil Nadu I congratulate you on your elevation and wish you all success in your new position," she said in her letter copies of which were circulated to the media.
 

Forty-three year old Sundar Pichai or P Sundararajan, hailed as "our Chennai boy" in the cyber space is a native of Tamil Nadu. He was born and raised here and he studied at two city schools Jawahar Vidyalalya and Vanavani Matriculation School.

After studying metallurgy and materials science at IIT-Kharagpur, he went to Stanford on a scholarship and did MBA at Wharton and joined Google later in 2004 where he successfully handled several assignments.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Google co-founder Larry Page and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella had already greeted Pichai.
