Tamil Nadu to sign PPA for 2,000 MW of solar energy: Minister

Cashing in on growing significance of solar power, Tamil Nadu government will soon sign a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 2,000 MW, of which 1,000 MW of solar power has already been inked, State Electricity Minister 'Natham' R Viswanathan today said.

"The government will sign a new PPA for 2,000 MW. Of this, 1,000 MW has already been signed and another 1,000 MW will be signed by the end of this month", he said at the 14th Green Power International Conference and Exposition on Renewable Energy 2015 organised by CII here.

Stating that Tamil Nadu performed well in the renewable energy sector, he said, the total capacity of 8,482.46 MW of power accounted for 35 per cent of the total renewable generation of the country.
 

He added the per capita consumption in Tamil Nadu was 1,017 units against the national average of 810 units.

State Energy Secretary, Rajesh Lakhoni said Tamil Nadu offers Rs 20,000 subsidy per KW of solar roof top installation in addition to the 30 per cent central subsidy.
