Government-owned Tamil Nadu Cements Corporation Ltd (TANCEM) has undertaken expansion of its Ariyalur unit at a cost of Rs 750 crore, Industries Minister M C Sampath said today.
"TANCEM is implementing the expansion of Ariyalur Cement unit at a project cost of Rs 750 crore. Larsen and Toubro has been engaged as the contractor" he told the State Assembly.
Nearly 60 per cent of the project activities have been completed and Rs 153.50 crore has been spent so far, he said.

Following the expansion, the production capacity would triple from the current 5 lakh tonne per year to 15 lakh tonne.
The company has recruited 20 persons initially and had planned to add 192 persons under the expansion exercise by the end of this year.
TANCEM currently has to factories one each at Ariyalur and Alangulam with a total capacity of 7 lakh tonne per year.
The company's average annual turnover stands at Rs 750 crore and employs about 1,100 people.
