TANGEDCO begins modernisation programmen

Press Trust of India Madurai
Tamil Nadu Electricity Generation and Distribution Corporation has begun a modernization programme, which included changing transformers and electric wires and three phase connection metres, official sources said here today.

The Modernisation would help TANGEDCO to minutely detect power theft and also find out faults in an area and send the maintenance staff without delay.

The sources said the transformers and EB offices and end users would be linked in such a way that the consumers would get through SMS, the consumption details as well as the amount to be paid by them and last date of payment.

The transformers would be fitted with SIM cards that would provide information regarding power consumption, whether power was being stolen or if the distribution was normal.

The SIM cards would also provide the exact location where the transformer/line was at fault.

A system had been incorporated to repair the transformer by remote control methods also.
