TANGEDCO detects Rs 22.66 lakh power theft

: Continuing its efforts to identify power theft, senior officials of the State Electricity Board raided an Aluminum casting company here and detected Rs 22.66 lakh power-theft.

The officers identified a theft of energy in LT industrial service connection and the modus operandi was through "meter bye-pass", an official release said.

The company was located under the Chennai Electricity Distribution (South) Circle, it said.

"The provisional assessment works out to Rs 22.66 lakh and the same was collected", it said.

Since the consumer came forward and paid Rs 2.45 lakh to avoid criminal proceedings, no police complaint was made, it said.
